NEWPORT — James W. Simoneau, 80, of Newport, New Hampshire died Tuesday, May 15 at Woodlawn Care Center in Newport, following a period of failing health. He was born in Unity, New Hampshire on Oct. 20, 1937, the son of Ivan, Sr. and Leona (Descoteau) Simoneau and had been a longtime area resident.
James was a self-employed logger, worked in the auto body business, and during the time he spent in Florida he was employed at a marina. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard sales and trying his luck with scratch tickets. Members of his family include two daughters, Tammy Marsh and her husband Richard of Newport, and Jamie Vaine and her husband Thomas of South Carolina; two stepdaughters, Shelley (Hayes) Dehne and her husband Donald of Florida, and Janet Hayes of Florida; a stepson, Philip Hayes and his wife Jeanette of Unity; four grandchildren, Richard Marsh, Matthew Marsh, Daniel Cera, and Gabriel Cera; six step-grandchildren, Misty Wheelock, Tyson Hayes, Madeline Dehne, Clayton Dehne, Nick Dehne, and Adam Hoffman; two brothers, Joseph Simoneau of Claremont, New Hampshire, and Robert Simoneau and his wife Gloria of Newport; three sisters, Angelina Desilets of Claremont, Joanne Greenwood of Charlestown, New Hampshire, and Anna Hayes; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Ivan Simoneau Jr. and a sister, Maryanne LeBlanc.
