WINDSOR- Bellows Falls and Windsor softball battled back and forth on Friday, with the Lady Jacks coming out on top at their home-diamond, 13-7.
In the early going, Lila Guerrina’s RBI put the visitors up 2-0 before Windsor came to the plate. The Yellow Jackets Carah Rugg scored in the bottom of the first, then Madison Putnam’s RBI single plated Adi Prior and knotted the game 2-2 after 2 innings.
The Terriers’ Paxton Santorelli and Windsor’s Rugg both went the distance today on the mound and kept both teams within striking distance of each other in the early parts of Friday’s game. BF tied the game up in the top of the fourth as Ariana Beltran scored on error, knotting the game at 4 runs apiece. Windsor took the lead in the bottom of the fourth as Hannah Wood and Jasmine Frazer both crossed the plate, with the big hit coming off the bat of Lexy Merrill.
Windsor’s Ava Sutton and Angel Sutton opened up the fifth on the bases as Prior broke open the tie game with a 2-RBI triple to deep left. “It felt pretty good when it left the bat and I just put my head down and hit the bases until I saw the stop sign at third,” said Prior after the game. That smash opened the flood gates for Windsor, as they pushed across 9 runs in the frame. Kacie Charest and Brooke McKeen added RBI hits and by the time the inning ended, Windsor was in control, 13-4.
“I don’t mind close games but it felt a whole lot better after we scored those runs today,” said Rugg after the game. Bellows Falls wasn’t done, as Shanice Fisher, Brooke Bennett and Santorelli all crossed home plate in the sixth, with Santorelli and Guerrina each picking up an RBI. Rugg would shut the door in the seventh with 2 strikeouts to give Windsor a 13-7 win.
Windsor head coach, Heather Stearns, said after the game that, “As a team we are starting to gel and today was a great whole team win.” Windsor is now 5-11 and hoping for a home game on Tuesday as playoff pairings will be announced soon. Leading BF hitters Friday were Santorelli and Guerrina, with 2 RBI’s each. Windsor had a balanced attack, as Prior led the way with 3 hits and 4 RBIs. She was followed by Charest and Rugg, with 2 hits each. Sutton, Wood, and McKeen all collected hits for the Yellow Jackets.
