New Parks Place director announced at garden event

WALPOLE — Helping people grow is at the heart of what Parks Place Community Resource Center does, and for eight years the organization has held an event reflective of this theme. This year’s Garden Event took place on Sunday, April 22 at Alyson’s Orchard in Walpole.

Life-long organic gardener Henry Homeyer gave a riveting presentation, “Invasive Species: Nature’s Thugs,” which helped Parks Place bring in approximately $7,000 to help further its mission to “connect people with the resources they need to move their lives forward,” according to a press release.

This year’s event also brought an opportunity for an update, the introduction of Parks Place’s new Executive Director, Wendi Germain.

“I am thrilled to be joining the team at Parks Place! I am lucky to have had so many opportunities to do work I love! I am a firm believer that we need to create happiness in our lives,” Germain said. “Supporting others in creating a life that enables them to flourish is my passion. I’m looking forward to spending time in Bellows Falls and learning about this community I hear so many wonderful things about.”

Sponsors for the event included Burtco, Cota & Cota, Mascoma Savings Bank, MJS Lawn Care, Savings Bank of Walpole, Silver Forest, Vermont Country Store, and Whitney Blake Company. Individual supporters and nature lovers also helped, along with Halladay’s, Grafton Grown Lavender, and Morning Star Perennials, which were all present at the event, offering quality, local garden items for sale.

Parks Place brings health and human services directly to residents of the Greater Falls Community, services that would otherwise be inaccessible. It is home to over 40 agencies which provide individuals and families the opportunity to make lasting, positive change in their lives.
