PERKINSVILLE, Vt. — The Green Mountain 4-H Club of Springfield hosted a Muzzleloader Shoot on May 26 at the Precision Valley Fish and Game Association in Perkinsville, Vermont.
Eight 4-H members from three clubs took part in the competition. Participants were permitted to use any traditional or non-traditional muzzleloading rifle, including in-lines, of any caliber with either an open or aperture metallic sight.
Seniors, ages 13-18, shot from a standing position. Winners in this division in order of placement were Kelsea Aldrich, Lyndonville, Vermont (Green Mountain 4-H Shooting Sports Club); Ken Beaupre, Orford, New Hampshire (Upper Valley Bullseyes 4-H Club); Hunter Michaud, East Hardwick, Vermont (Green Mountain 4-H Shooting Sports Club); and Austin Taylor, Westminster, Vermont (Green Mountain 4-H Club).
Younger competitors, ages 8-12, shot from a standing position using a rest. Evan Hash, Lyndonville (Green Mountain 4-H Shooting Sports Club) placed first followed by Jacob Churchill, Groton, Vermont (Green Mountain 4-H Shooting Sports Club); Isaac Osinchuck, Springfield, Vermont (Green Mountain 4-H Club); and Ivan Osinchuck, Springfield (Green Mountain 4-H Club).
Following the shoot, all participants were able to test their skill with muzzleloader shotgun with Dick O’Dette, president of the Precision Valley Fish and Game Association. The event also served as an additional practice for the teens heading to the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships in Grand Island, Nebraska, in June. Kelsea, Ken and Hunter will represent Vermont on the muzzleloader team at the national event.
Adult volunteers assisting with this University of Vermont Extension 4-H event were Joe Austin of Westminster, Ginger Goings of Springfield, and Paul Muzzey of Chester, all with the Green Mountain 4-H Club, and Doug Petty of St. Johnsbury, a member of the Green Mountain 4-H Shooting Sports Club.
