CLAREMONT, N.H. and KITTERY, Maine — Mary Jane Vaughan, 85, died Monday May 28 at the Portsmouth Regional Medical Center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

She was born on Sept. 28, 1932 in Claremont, New Hampshire, the daughter of Armond “Joe” and Irene (Cook) Mayotte.

Mary graduated from Stevens High School in 1951 where she enjoyed great success skating in the semi pro Junctioneers Skating Club with her sister Evelyn, and attended a number of carnivals around New England.

After high school she worked for Stanley’s Market before going to work for P & C Grocery for a number of years. In 1952 she married her first husband John E. Murray, who predeceased her in 1976. In 1982 she married Morton Vaughan.

Mary was lucky enough to retire at the young age of 50, which allowed her to spend time with her husband Mort and do the things they enjoyed, such as traveling, camping, skiing, and spending time with family. She was well-known for her passionate decorating of her home, for every holiday; this gift brought her prizes and accolades, but mostly it lifted others’ spirits. Mary was a talented stained glass artist, she enjoyed spending her time making these beautiful pieces of art that fill the homes of all her family and loved ones. She loved a challenge and could fix anything.
