WARRENTON, Va. and CLAREMONT — Androniki Kokulis Carr, age 96, passed peacefully in her home at The Villa at Suffield Meadows in Warrenton, Virginia on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. She was born on Aug. 8, 1921 in Manchester, New Hampshire, daughter of the late Nicholas and Despou Kokulis.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carr was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Frederick W. Carr.
Mrs. Carr is survived by her three children: Frederick P.D. Carr and his wife, Becky of Warrenton; Janis Carr of Claremont, New Hampshire; Stephen Carr and his wife, Cindy of Fulton, Maryland; a brother, Paul Kokulis and his wife, Carolyn of Potomac, Maryland; one grandson, Nicholas A. Carr and his wife, Lauren of Naples, Florida; step-grandchildren, Kate and Steven Shumaker of Fulton; and a great-granddaughter, Gwyneth B. Carr of Naples.
She graduated as valedictorian from Goffstown High School in 1938, and was co-captain of her basketball team which was state champion that year. She attended Becker College and graduated with a degree in business.
Nicky married her husband in June of 1946, after his service as a pilot in WWII. They subsequently lived and raised their family in various locations throughout New Hampshire, as Mr. Carr taught school in Exeter and served as a principal in Colebrook and Claremont.
While living in Claremont for over 40 years, Nicky participated in a variety of community organizations. She served tirelessly as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, as well as at the polls during local and national elections. Additionally, she was an active member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Claremont, and was a consummate cook and seamstress.
She will be buried with her husband in New Hampshire at a later date.
