LANGDON — The Fall Mountain Regional School District has recently been awarded funds for a Personalized Learning project proposal under ESSA Title IV, Part A, Student Support and Enrichment Grants. The funding amount for this round of the competitive grant was $1,087,000. Fall Mountain received $28,989 of that funding, according to Director of Technology Lynne Phillips.
The department received 91 grant proposals totaling $4,015,090 in funding requests, according to a district newsletter.
The team at the high school will focus their efforts in STEM projects and computer science this fall and offering an Extended Learning Opportunity (ELO) for high school students using Code.org CS Discoveries. Students will have the opportunity to learn problem-solving, web development, animation, game design, and writing code for Arduino microcontrollers. A heavy emphasis will be placed on collaboration, and students will work together to develop prototypes and use peer feedback to improve their designs and code.
Tentatively, this ELO would be held four times a week during Team Time, Thursday through Friday. Staff with the school’s help desk and technology departments said they are looking forward to receiving feedback and interest from students through a form recently emailed to them.
