‘Arts of Resistance’ will feature multi-dimensional events

BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. — Local visual, musical and lyrical artists will gather to celebrate the “creative meets political” and community from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, June 15 with “The Arts of Resistance.” Events will open with art work and performances at Project Space 9 Gallery (PS9), the Exner Block art gallery, and Canal St Art Gallery both on Canal St. and will continue at 33 Bridge St. in Bellows Falls.

The Arts of Resistance is an evening of two- and three-dimensional art and performances “exploring the spectrum of reactions to this tumultuous political time in our country,” according to a press release. This year’s events are predicted to include several returning artists and local bands and many new participants. Attendees are invited participate in creating post cards to be mailed to participants’ favorite politicians or in a public art project.

Troubadours and poets will perform a few of their originals and some beloved favorite protest songs. Events on June 15 will include Cold River Ranters, The Milkhouse Heaters, Pete & Linda Simoneaux and Friends. Music will start at Project Space 9, at 9 Canal St., from 5 to 8 p.m., and end with a group sing-along of Bob Dylan’s “The Times They Are A Changin.” The music will continue 8:30-11 p.m. at Stage 33 Live at 33 Bridge St, Bellows Falls. All events at PS9 and Stage 33 Live are free but a suggested donation of $5 will be appreciated. A closing reception on Bellows Falls 3rd Friday will take place on July 20 with some of the same, and additional artists.

The Arts of Resistance is organized and curated by local artist Jeanette Staley of North Westminster, Vermont and in conjunction with the Rockingham Arts and Museum Project (RAMP). For this second annual event, a contingency of resisters joined Staley in the cause including individual artists and arts organizations, all instrumental in offering a space to share and celebrate the dualities of individuality and community in the service of resisting the current political climate. Jan Sheehy of Milkhouse Heaters organized the performers.

RAMP organizes shows and activities in the PS9 space year-round. For wheelchair accessibility call (802) 463-3252 or email [email protected] in advance to make arrangements.
