NEWPORT — Lawrence “Larry” Flint of Newport has been named the winner of the 2018 Joseph D. Vaughn Award for Sullivan County.
The award is presented each year to individuals or couples
over the age of 60, who have shown outstanding leadership or demonstrated
meritorious achievement as volunteers, on behalf of older citizens in New
Hampshire.
One award is made for each of New Hampshire’s 10 counties.
This year marks the 56th anniversary of the Joseph D. Vaughn Award a New
Hampshire Legislator and former Principal of Richards School in Newport.
Representative Vaughn was an early advocate for older residents of the state
and was instrumental in creating a state agency dedicated to the well-being
of older people.
Numerous local and state organizations have benefited from Flint’s generous
involvement and participation.
He serves on the State Committee of Aging (SCOA). For the last 31 years he has been heavily involved New Hampshire Senior Games as Chairman, Secretary, Venue manager, and other various roles while being involved and promoting various fitness activities.
He served on the Newport Senior Center Board for 16 years. He continues to promote
healthy aging for older local and state residents.
