NEWPORT — The last official reunion of the descendants of Lemuel and Mary Barton will be held on Dsaturday, July7th at the home of Ben and Kathy Barton, 525 John Stark Higheway, Newport.
Lemuel and Mary were long time residents of Newport and were the parents of 20 children, 10 boys and 10 girls.
The first generation (the 20 children) are all deceased and the youngest second generation cousin is 63 years old. Many of the cousins have passed away also. Many of the 72 yearly reunions were held at Cloie (Barton) Young’s residence in Goshen, but the last 33 have been held at the present location.
The attendance has dwindled from a high of 108 in 1989 to only 31 in 2017 due to many descendants passing away and lack of interest in successive generations.
If you are a descendant of Lemuel and Mary Barton, it would be great to have you attend this one last time. It is a great time to catch up and reminisce with a relative you may not have seen for a while.
