WESTMINSTER WEST, Vt. — Rev. Charles (Chuck) W. Friedman passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 4, 2018, at the age of 90. He was born in 1928, to Margaret and Harry Friedman (predeceased) in Brooklyn, New York.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Ruth Friedman, of Westminster West, and their four children: Russell of Palm Bay, Florida, Stewart (and wife Linda) of Weathersfield, Todd of Brattleboro, and Kim Friedman Clark (and husband Charles) of Malden, Massachusetts. He is further survived by his sister, Cynthia Varrone of Middle Village, New York; grandchildren: Elizabeth Grosso, Amy Friedman, Harrison Friedman, Ryan Friedman, Charles (Zach) Wolliston, and Victoria Wolliston; great-grandchildren: Jackson, Olivia, Emma and Waylon, as well as many nieces and nephews.
After marrying Ruth in 1957, the family moved from Massapequa, New York to Westminster West in 1972. Chuck served in the U.S. Air Force, and then owned a luncheonette in Long Island, New York before moving to Vermont. He worked at Hemingway Trucking, WCFR, WKVT, and served as executive director at Bellows Falls Chamber of Commerce; and was a Freemason. Chuck found his true passion as the reverend at the First Baptist Church in Bellows Falls. He was devoted to living the teachings of the Lord, seeing the good in everyone he met, and sharing his love and laughter with all. He was an avid reader who had a penchant for storytelling. Chuck embraced technology and was active on social media to stay connected with his family and friends. His greatest joy was his family. Chuck was known for his kindness and great sense of humor.
A public viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 8 at Fenton and Hennessey, 55 Westminster St., Bellows Falls, Vermont.
A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9 at the First Baptist Church of Bellows Falls, at 9 Church St. with Pastors Steve and Terri Walton officiating. A reception will follow in the downstairs level of the church immediately afterwards.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Chuck be made to the First Baptist Church of Bellows Falls, Missions.
