CLAREMONT– Coaches, coupes, Pinto-bodied Modifieds, Gremlins; many of the classic racers of yesteryear will join the 2018 stars and cars of Claremont Speedway Friday, June 15, as the third-mile oval hosts it annual Racers Reunion.
The New England Antique Racers will be in town, joining the Super Streets, Street Stocks, and Wild Cats in a full night of racing, with some of the NEAR contingent made up of cars from the Thrasher Road oval’s own 70-plus-year racing history.
Charlestown’s Danny Ferland, now 71, and his son Jamie will be on hand in two of the Pinto Modifieds Ferland built and once raced weekly here at his hometown track, during a career that started in the speedplant’s pre-1973 dirt track days and has continued for more than half a century.
The NEAR Hall of Fame truck will also be on display during Friday’s event. Qualifying races begin promptly at 7 p.m. Friday at Claremont Speedway, with a full slate of feature races immediately following. In the event of inclement weather, the Racers Reunion event will be contested on Saturday.
