Richards students raise $4,600 for heart program

NEWPORT — The fourth year participating in Jump Rope for Heart was another successful one for Richards School.

NEWPORT — This year students in grades K-5 raised a total of $4,600 for the American Heart Association. Jump Rope for Heart is a program that raises money and awareness for heart disease.

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United State. Heart disease accounts for 40 percent of all U.S. deaths, more than all forms of cancer combined. It affects so many people.

The students who are pictured raised a total of at least $50 to receive the t-shirt. Second grader Owen Beard was the top fundraiser for the second consecutive year raising $370.

Also, raising $300 or more were Peyton Blackinton, Andrew Benoit, and Garrett Davis. Jenna Willey, Bradley Abair, Katie Renner, and Lucia Merrigan all raised more than $200.

It was another successful year and these students are participating in something greater than themselves. They are doing their part to help individuals with “sick hearts.”
