CLAREMONT — Third generation hot shoe Dylan Bodreau scored his first victory of the summer Friday at Claremont Speedway, topping the 40-lap Super Street main event, while Street Stock’s Chris Riendeau and Wild Cat ace Zach Lyn each tripled up.
Hometrack racer Jamie Ferland edged his father, Danny, to win the NEAR Modified feature, and Bay State pilot Curt Snow topped the visiting antiquer’s Sportsman 15-lapper.
Bodreau led early and often in the Super Street feature, setting a fast pace over the final 39 trips around the third-mile speedplant to become his division’s fourth different winner this summer. His victory, coupled with Craig Smith’s third-place run, pulled him within four points of the division-leading Smith.
Tyler Lescord and Alex Poisson led the field to the green but Bodreau, firing from row two, wasted little time in staking his claim to the point position. Rocketing low under Lescord out of turn four, he took command as lap two entered the books.
Smith caught a big break on lap seven, spinning along the front chute with help but somehow watching the whole field scatter around his looping car without contact. That good fortune would be rewarded later, as he stayed atop the championship points chase.
Hayden Scott, bidding for his second win of the season, rocketed into third on lap six, and second the next rime around, but on this night Bodreau had the field covered. Smith got back up for third on lap 17 and for much of the final 23 go-rounds Bodreau, Scott and Smith raced under a blanket.
Defending track champ Ricky Bly continued to struggle with his new ride but his diligence was rewarded with the night’s fourth-place finish, which, coupled with his heat race victory, kept him solidly in fourth in the 2018 points chase, with plenty of season still ahead of him. Mark McClay, a two-time feature winner already this summer, came home fifth on the night.
It may have seemed unfair to the rest of the field for Street Stock kingpin Chris Riendeau to start his night’s 25-lapper on row one, but that’s the hand dealt out Friday night by the handicapping system and Riendeau took full advantage of it.
Rookie Nick Little was the deuce man the first two go-rounds, then giving way to fellow first-year shoe Robbie Streeter. Points leader Bryan Town, from row three, was marching steadily forward, while Riendeau was pulling away.
Town got up for second on lap six and, while he would close some of the monstrous gap between himself and Riendeau, on this night he settled for an impressive runner-up finish. Two-time winner Dave Greenslit was solid in third, Streeter strong in fourth, and Kenny Thompson steady all night to claim the five-spot.
Raven Streeter and Jon Alden made up the all-rookie front row of the Wild Cat starting grid, with Alden pouncing quickly on the point and then setting fast time over the first 17 trips around the fast third-mile before Zach Lyn took charge and then darted off to score his third win of the summer, a dozen lengths ahead of the rest of the field.
Third-generation oval-tracker Kyle Templeton held the deuce the final seven go-rounds to score his season-best runner-up finish, just ahead of fellow rookie Alden. Veteran Chris Davis was fourth on the night, and hometown pilot Kyle Buck came home fifth.
Next Friday, June 22, it’s Trivia Night at Claremont Speedway; come early and bring your racing knowledge. Fans are reminded that the speedway’s annual fireworks extravaganza is now only two weeks away, on Friday, July 6.
