Newport Middle School Awards Night

NEWPORT — Many Newport Middle School students weere honored Tuesday night at the annual Newport Middle School Awards Ceremony in the Newport Opera House.

D.A.R History Awards — Given to two grade 8 students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in U.S. history.

High Honors — Student must have earNed 3.5 or above in all competencies for the first three quarters in the core subjects.

Honors – Student must have earned 3.0 or above in all competencies for the first three quarters in the core subjects.

Subject Awards — Recipients have demonstrated outstanding and consistent achievement, curiosity, and involvement.

Positive Academic Growth Award — Recipients have demonstrated academic improvement over the course of the school year in core subjects.

Outstanding Work Habits Award — Recipients have consistently demonstrated positive work habits over the course of the school year in core subjects.

April Swain Outstanding Achievement Award — Chosen by the team teachers and given to a student or students chosen for their outstanding commitment to consistently doing their personal best. Names are engraved on the plaque in the Middle School hallway.

Teresa Gonyea Memorial Model Student Award — Chosen by the team teachers and given to a student or students chosen for their outstanding scholarship and citizenship. Names are engraved on the plaque in the middle school hallway.

Calista Thurlow Award — Chosen by the middle school staff and given to a student who shows a strong desire to make Newport and our middle school community a better place. Additionally, this student shows enthusiasm for learning. These are the qualities that embody the storied career of Mrs. Thurlow, who has spent 47 years teaching at Newport Middle School . Name is engraved on a plaque in the middle school hallway.
