Some very high highs
Finally, after a rather dry month of May, some rain fell during the night Wednesday and it was most welcome, especially by anyone with vegetable gardens.
Fortunately, Newport High School was able to get its graduation exercise completed well before the rain arrived. There were plenty of dark clouds floating past the Newport Common but they continued on their way without raining on the ceremony.
Thursday was overcast throughout the day but there was no further rain. At noontime the temperature was at 66 degrees at noon. At Mount Washington it was 59.7 at the 1,600-foot level and 41.9 at the 6,288-feet, the top of the mountain.
Saturday was as good as it gets. It was a warm, sunny morning with a breeze. The weather was perfect for the 48th graduation on the football field for the Sargent Regional High School Class of 2018. And likewise for Chamber Day on the Newport Common with hundreds of folks getting an opportunity to check out approximately 45 displays by 45 vendors.
It was certainly beach weather Monday and Tuesday with daytime highs in the 90s. Some spots in New Hampshire reached 100 degrees, or more, before rain showers made their way through, reducing the highs back from their earlier peak.
