Art museum will hold opening reception

MERIDEN — The Aidron Duckworth Art Museum in Meriden will hold an opening reception of work by Sande French-Stockwell from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 23.

French-Stockwell, a multi-faceted artist, will present her newest piece, “Parliament of the Souls,” a series of whimsical sculpture to be installed on the grounds of the museum, creating “moments of humor, joy, and pure magic delicately tucked into the landscape,” according to a press release from the museum.

French-Stockwell lives in Corinth, Vermont. Her interest runs through numerous media and subject matter. The work in Parliament of the Souls likewise pulls from wild and ranging sources. At times, French-Stockwell’s influences can be found in totemic, sacred art works, while in other moments the pieces seem related to fantasies in fairy tales like those of Northern Europe and Scandinavia, all according to the museum.

The reception will include an artist talk at 4 p.m. followed immediately by a work of dance, choreographed specially for the installation, by Hannah Satterly of Burlington, Vermont.

Parliament of the Souls will be on the museum grounds from June 23 through Oct. 28.
