CLAREMONT — A Stevens High School graduate in the Class of 2018 has been recognized for superior academic achievement by the National Society of High School Scholars.
The NSHSS, based in Atlanta, Georgia, announced recently that Claremont graduate Nicholas Stone has been selected to become a member of the organization. The Society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment.
The announcement was made by NSHSS Founder and Chairman Claes Nobel, senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prize.
“On behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice and commitment that Nick has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence,” Nobel said in a press release. “Nick is now a member of a unique community of scholars — a community that represents our very best hope for the future.”
Nick was an Honor Society student, vice president of his class for all four years, and played football for four years, lacrosse for three years, and baseball for one year. He was the recipient of the National Football Foundation of New Hampshire Hall of Fame designation. He was also a member of the Key Club and Future Business Leaders of America. He will be playing in the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl in August at Castleton University. In the fall, he plans to attend Castleton University, and will be playing football for them.
Nick is the son of Jonathan and Ellen Stone, and grandson of Stuart and Mary Stone.
“We are proud to provide lifetime membership to young scholars to support their growth and development,” said NSHSS President James W. Lewis. “We aim to help students like Nick build on their academic success by connecting them with unique learning experiences and resources to help prepare them for college and meaningful careers.”
NSHSS members automatically become lifetime members at the time of their initial membership. At each step along the way — from high school to college to career — NSHSS connects outstanding young scholars with the resources they need to develop their strengths and pursue their passions, according to the organization, which includes more than 1,000,000 Society members in 160 countries.
