NEW LONDON — Superintendent Winfried Feneberg has announced that Abigail Bergen will serve as Kearsarge Middle School’s new associate director of Student Support Services.

Bergen will bring with her more than 15 years of experience in special education when she officially steps into the role on July 1. She replaces Rebecca Forrestall, who has held the position for the last three years and has accepted the position of director of Student Services at Hopkinton, New Hampshire Public Schools.

“Abigail is a talented professional whose experience makes her the ideal candidate for this position,” Superintendent Feneberg said. “I am confident she will serve Kearsarge Middle School and our district well. Please join me in welcoming her to the community.”

For the last 12 years, Bergen has served as a special education teacher and integration specialist for the Bedford School District. During that time, from 2012 to 2014, she also worked as an adjunct professor in the Department of Education at Southern New Hampshire University, Manchester. She began her career in education in 2006 at the Lighthouse School in Chelmsford, Massachusetts as a special education teacher.

Bergen holds a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in psychology from Johnson State College and a master’s degree in education, with a focus on students with moderate disabilities in grades five through 12, from Salem State College. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in leadership and learning from Rivier University.
