Saturation patrol
During the early evening hours of June 24, 2018, Troopers from the Westminster Barracks conducted a saturation patrol in Windham and Windsor counties, concentrating their efforts on vehicles being operated on Interstate 91 (I-91). The focus of the patrol was to identify and deter aggressing driving while enforcing motor vehicle laws, while promoting safe driving on Vermont roadways.
During the patrol, Troopers initiated 17 traffic stops, while issuing a several VCVCs (traffic tickets) and written warnings for various motor vehicle violations. One operator was arrested for Excessive Speed after he was found to be traveling at 105 MPH in the posted 65 MPH zone.
The State Police would like to remind all motorists to consider utilizing a designated driver or seek alternative transportation when planning to consume alcohol.
Disorderly conduct at campground
On Saturday, June 23, the Vermont State Police Westminster Barracks responded to a disturbance at the Running Bear Campground in Weathersfield. Troopers went to the campsite in question. According to their report, Sherry Leonard, who was not found to be a registered guest, continued to shout profanities and scream at people in the area. She was advised several times to quiet down as it was late and people are trying to sleep. She continued to yell, causing people from other camp sites to gather around. She was given more warnings to stop yelling, but failed to comply and was ultimately arrested for disorderly conduct. She was transported to the Springfield Police Department for processing. She was ordered held at the Southern State Correctional Facility until sober. She was cited into Windsor County Criminal Court on August 21 at 8 a.m. for disorderly conduct.
Man found dead at Hartland Park and Ride
A concerned citizen placed a call to Vermont State police early on the morning of June 21 about someone apparently deceased at the Exit 9 I-91 Park and Ride, Town of Hartland. Police found David L. Valenti, 48, of Milton, Vt., deceased around 7 a.m. Thursday. They notified his next of kin and are investigating the cause of his death. No foul play is suspected.
