NEWPORT — Lloyd Kendall Dutton, Jr. passed away, surrounded by loved ones, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center on June 23, 2018 at the age of 72.
Ken was born on Dec. 15, 1945 in Los Alamos, New Mexico to Lloyd and Helen (Millett) Dutton. He graduated from Tappan Zee High School in 1963 before being drafted into the United States Army from 1965 to 1967, and honorably served in the Vietnam War.
On Dec. 28, 1968, Ken married Carol Ann George. Together this couple shared 50 wonderful years together proving that opposites really do attract. The pair moved to Newport, New Hampshire in 1978, where they raised their three children, Kerry (Barton), Heather (Dombroski) and LJ Dutton. Ken was employed as a chemist at Roymal Inc., where he spent 30 years until retirement in 2008.
His children remember him as a quiet, but fun and silly Dad who shared a joke or quick wit most anytime. He had the kindest soul and had such a compassionate heart. Ken truly blossomed when he became a grandfather! There was nothing he adored more than attending dance recitals, birthday parties, school plays, and various sporting events of his grandchildren when possible. He had many hobbies and loved to read science fiction, collect and build model railroads, garden, photography, and camping. He was a passionate animal lover and was always willing to take in any animal in need.
Ken will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved him. He was a gentle, kind and loving man. Ken is predeceased by his parents. Surviving family members include his wife, Carol; son, LJ and his wife Andrea Dutton; daughters, Kerry and her husband Russell Barton, and Heather and her husband Patrick Dombroski; brother, Arthur and his wife Maggie Dutton; grandchildren, Sydney, Hannah, Madi, Lucas, Zach, Kendall, Sam, and Nate; and his beloved dogs, Mickey and Scruffy.
A celebration of life will be held on Aug. 12 with details to follow.
