CONCORD — Registration is now open for a course for women who want to learn the basics of using a rifle and shotgun. The New Hampshire Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Program (BOW) presents “Introduction to Rifle and Shotgun,” from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Aug. 11 at Owl Brook Hunter Education Center, Holderness.
Taught by BOW and Hunter Education instructors, this workshop will cover action types, safe handling, correct ammunition, proper maintenance, and storage. Live shooting opportunities for both firearms will be included in the day’s events.
To sign up, go to nhbow.com, and click on event registration page. After registering online, print, fill out, and mail in all the forms with payment by July 15.
The workshop fee of $55 is due with registration and includes instruction, program materials, use of some equipment, and lunch. Registration is limited to 20 participants. A hunting license is not required during scheduled class time.
“Beyond BOW” workshops are in-depth sessions designed to expand on the offerings of the traditional Becoming an Outdoors-Woman programs, helping women gain the skills needed to participate in outdoor activities on their own.
The New Hampshire Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program is co-sponsored by the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department (www.wildnh.com) and the New Hampshire Wildlife Federation (www.nhwf.org).
