Shape up, Vermont

To the Editor,

This is a letter to whom it may concern. We have a new governor who is a Republican, who was voted in because he said he would not raise the taxes. Now many of the representatives are turning against him. Already Gov. Scott has turned the budget down twice. It appears we have someone who means what he says, expecting the ones in their positions to find ways in which to give up in certain areas.

Let’s back up to a number of years ago, back when things turned from being stern, with more respect for others — good manners etc. We’re into the late ’70s, many various public figures became lax in their behavior such as dress codes, allowing more flexibility, even avoiding to do. Now young people see these adults not caring, not doing their jobs. Yet money became more important, mothers going out to help support their families, then more divorces and less care for the children at home, where they need both fathers and mothers for a whole family unit.

In the schools where these young people attend, even they, the ones who were/are teaching, are not fulfilling their positions, stating they need more money so they go on level of owing, mostly having assistants who do the hard work.

Should we not compare to years past? Back in the year 1974, the Springfield Vt. school system was equal to Colorado’s, some of the best schools in this country. Take a good look at it now. Actually there is no excuses to why these school children are not taught better. As it is — falling behind.

No wonder unfortunately this not caring has affected many areas as to turning to drugs, a way to escape. With this the means to purchase these drugs lowers a person’s own respect and self esteem.

So, representatives, there are ways, the old saying goes, where there is a will there is a way. More things are being wasted, a throw away economy. A good business for the credit card companies.

Perhaps looking into a wholesome future. Giving young people hope, encouragement. These could be the answer in healing the ones who turn to drugs.

Hopefully before July 1, 2018 these things stated above can be looked at for the future of the people of this state — even this America.
