SPRING HILL, Fla. and CHARLESTOWN — Edgar Friedrich Flaig, 86, of Spring Hill, Florida and formerly of Charlestown, New Hampshire and Norwalk, Connecticut, born on Sept. 10, 1931 in Stuttgart, Germany, passed away on June 17, 2018 in Melbourne, Florida. Edgar immigrated to Norwalk via Toronto, Canada in the 1950s. In Connecticut he owned and operated Eddie’s Shell Station and Flaig’s Service Center. In 1971 he settled with his family in Charlestown, New Hampshire, owning and operating Edgar Flaig’s Service Station, Flaig and Son Exxon (Springfield, Vermont) and Taylor Auto Parts until retiring to Florida in 1997. He was an avid race car owner and driver, racing modifieds and mini modifieds throughout the short tracks of the Northeast in the 1970s and 80s. He also had a love of flying, and after giving up auto racing became a licensed pilot, flying his Long Ez aircraft well into his 80s. He traveled extensively and was a very active member of the German American Club of Spring Hill.
He was predeceased by his parents Friedrich “Fritz” and Emma Flaig and his granddaughter, Robin Flaig. He is survived by his wife, Amy King of Spring Hill; his daughter Linda Glasschroeder of Swanzey, son Eric Flaig and wife Jennifer of Charlestown; grandson Richard Flaig and wife Alicia of Newport; great-grandchildren Joseph and Juliana Flaig; brother Horst Flaig and wife Ruth of Vaihingen, Germany; nephew Alexander Flaig and family of Vaihingen, Germany; Pat and Randy Fullam of Claremont; stepson Douglas King, and stepdaughter Laura King and son Zachary.
