MANCHESTER — New Hampshire State regulators have approved Eversource’s Default Energy Service Charge for the six-month period beginning Aug. 1st.
Residential and Small Commercial Customers choosing to purchase energy from Eversource will see their energy supply charge increase to 9.412 cents per kilowatt-hour from the current 7.903 cents/kWhr. This is a direct pass-through cost to customers for the price of power generation, with no profit to Eversource.
All Eversource customers have the right to choose to purchase energy from a competitive energy supplier instead of their regulated utility. Eversource provides energy service to those customers who have not chosen a supplier or who have been unable to receive service from a competitive energy supplier. “We’re always mindful of the effect energy supply increases have on our customers, particularly those who are facing difficult financial circumstances. We urge customers to make full use of our energy efficiency programs to help reduce their usage, tighten-up their homes and keep their energy bills down,” said Eversource Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer Penni Conner. “Our energy efficiency specialists are ready to help find solutions so customers can better manage their energy use year-round.”
As part of the company’s shift this year to purchasing power from the wholesale energy market, Eversource purchased power beginning April 1st for an initial four-month period that did not include any portion of the high-priced winter period, reflecting only the lowest pricing months of the year.
Moving forward, the Default Energy Service Charge will be adjusted twice a year, on August 1 and February 1. The timing of the six-month periods was selected, in collaboration with the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission, to reduce price volatility during the winter season when energy costs are highest.
Adjustments to the Stranded Cost Recovery Charge and Transmission charge are also anticipated to take effect Aug. 1st. The proposed adjustments will be filed in early July with the PUC.
