Ludlow Rotary Club passes gavel to mark new presidents

COURTESY
LUDLOW, Vt. — In an annual tradition dating back to July, 1928, the Ludlow Rotary Club (LRC), established in 1927, conducted its “Passing of the Gavel” ceremony, denoting the change of the club’s presidency. At its final meeting in June, outgoing President Suzanne Garvey handed the gavel of club leadership to “The Women of Rotary,” a consortium of ladies who will lead the Ludlow Rotary club during the 2018-19 year.

This marks the 91st time this event has occurred in the club’s history. It is particularly noteworthy as Rotary enters its 30th year of women in Rotary, all according to the Rotary Club.

The new year’s presidency will consist of Sharon Bixby, Mary K. Crowley, Barbara LeMire, Brigid Sullivan, and Jill Humpfer Tofferi. LRC members extended their deep appreciation and gratitude to Garvey for her leadership and enthusiasm.

LRC meets for lunch on most Tuesdays at 12:15 p.m. at DJ’s Restaurant. The LRC is small and is always looking to welcome new members. Anyone who would like to attend a meeting, and learn how they may “serve humanity” while enjoying the fellowship of others, can contact any Rotarian or drop a note to Ludlow Rotary, P.O. Box 216, Ludlow Vermont.
