PLYMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — The two Democratic candidates for New Hampshire governor are attacking Republican Gov. Chris Sununu’s support for school vouchers and his willingness to accept corporate contributions from a utility company at a candidate forum.
Molly Kelly, a former five-term state senator from Harrisville, and former Portsmouth Mayor Steve Marchand are meeting at their first forum Saturday.
They’re aiming at the state’s freshman governor. Kelly says she’s “appalled” by Sununu’s push for school vouchers and that it’s “wrong for New Hampshire.”
Marchand, who’s making his second consecutive bid for governor, claims Sununu is taking “tens of thousands of dollars” in donations from Eversource, the energy company that pushed unsuccessfully for the controversial Northern Pass energy transmission lines.
The winner of the Sept. 11 primary will face off against Sununu in November’s election.
