Museum will host ice cream social

LUDLOW, Vt. — Interested in cooling off on a hot summer’s day? Join the Black River Academy Museum from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 7 on 14 High St. for an old-fashioned ice cream social.

Visitors can also take some time to view the DVD at the main entrance to see what the museum is all about. Walk through the three floors of exhibits featuring the Main Street of Ludlow as it was in the late 1800s, see rooms filled with Victorian furnishings, and try to pick out the first vacuum cleaner that was invented in town.

The second floor features many exhibits including traditional New England barn building, information about the after effects of Tropical Storm Irene, and Vermont’s largest display of Finnish artifacts.

A new display this year shows scaled model buildings of Main Street in the 1930s and 40s, assembled b local sixth grade students under the supervision of their teacher, Heidi Baitz. The third floor has a 1900s school room and military memorabilia from the Civil War, WWI, and WWII.

Whether visiting for the weekend, a summer resident, or a local resident, there is always something new and different to see at the museum. The price of admission of $2, or $1 for seniors and students, includes a cool dessert and a chance to wander through this local treasure.
