SPRINGFIELD, Vt.— A free Celebration and Barbecue will be held at the North School Recreation Area on Saturday, Aug. 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Instead of the usual first Friday Free Community Dinner at the North Springfield Baptist Church, church members and neighbors are planning a free community celebration and barbecue with a contest to see who can prepare the best-pulled pork barbecue.
Lunch will be served around noon. You can contact the North Springfield Baptist Church (NSBC) at 802-886-8107 or [email protected] if you would like to participate in the community barbecue competition and learn more about the rules.
A panel of community representatives will be the judges for the barbecue competition. We will have barbecue enthusiasts challenge our neighbors and business owners for bragging rights of the best pulled pork barbecue. Community friends, neighbors, and businesses will be chosen to be blind taste testers to determine the best pulled-pork.
Criteria to be considered; (1) a portion of the barbecue preparation must occur at the Saturday, Aug. 4 Community Celebration and Barbecue, (2) taste, (3) aroma, (4) plating (display, presentation).
North Springfield Baptist Church family and friends will offer sausages with peppers and onions, salads, water, lemonade, and desserts along with other pot-luck options to complete the free dinner. Bring your own chairs, lawn games, and non-alcoholic beverages, if desired.
