NEWPORT — The Library Arts Center will present a screening of “Seeing Through the Wall: Meeting Ourselves in Palestine and Israel.”
In 2016, Rabbi Dov Taylor of Woodstock, Vermont invited a group of Americans to join him on a tour of Israel and Palestine. This 12-day excursion was not planned as a sight-seeing tour, but to introduce tour members to Palestinians living in the Occupied Territories and East Jerusalem, or as Rabbi Taylor put it, “I wanted Americans, and American Jews in particular, to have the opportunity to meet and get to know some Palestinians as human beings, just like themselves, with the same hopes and fears and dreams,” according to a press release.
“Seeing Through the Wall: Meeting Ourselves in Palestine and Israel,” is a documentary told from the point of view of the American visitors, their Israeli and Palestinian tour guides, and Israelis and Palestinians they meet along the way.
The film will be shown at 7 p.m. Thursday July 26 at the Library Arts Center.
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
Those present to share the film and post film Q&A will include Anne Macksoud, documentary film maker; Rabbi Dov Taylor of Woodstock, and Mohsen Mehdawi, a Palestinian man who has lived in the United States for the past four years.
