SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — Love viewing the night sky? Wish you had a telescope? Ever heard of “Stellafane” or wondered what it actually is? Join presenters at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 25 at the Springfield Town Library to learn about and celebrate the rich history of Stellafane presented by amateur telescope maker and Stellafane member, Rick Hunter.
The Springfield Telescope Makers, Inc. is an active Amateur Astronomy and Telescope Making club in Springfield. Founded in 1923 as an outgrowth of Russell W. Porter’s original class in telescope making, the club built its pink clubhouse, named “Stellafane,” in that same year. Publicized in the Scientific American, the telescope making hobby became a popular movement and in 1926 the group started the annual Stellafane Convention, which continues to the present.
The 2018 Stellafane Convention will be held Aug. 8, 9, and 10. All are welcome to attend the talk to learn more about the club and the Convention.
