WESTMINSTER, Vt. — Kurn Hattin Homes for Children’s Summer Recreation Program has been particularly busy in July. The days have been jam-packed with fun and unique activities.
The Kurn Hattin children celebrated the 4th of July by creating and riding on a float in the Saxtons River Independence Day Parade, adorned in their tie-dye shirts and fun bandanas. The 4th of July is a special day for Kurn Hattin Homes — in addition to Independence Day, it is also the birthday of Kurn Hattin’s founder, the Rev. Charles Albert Dickinson.
On the evening of July 15, a dance performance was put on by Kurn Hattin’s Monarch Dance and Movement Camp 2018. The Kurn Hattin dancers were directed by houseparent Shaun Edwards and his assistant Mackenzie Mazzo. The performance, “To Build a Home,” was very beautiful and moving, according to a school administrator.
Also in July, the boys of Morrison Cottage spent a day at Hooper Golf Course in Walpole, New Hampshire. They learned to putt, rode in the golf carts, toured the main house, and had lunch. The boys were all smiles as they practiced their golf swings.
Another enjoyable performance came from the Marionette Camp. The children created their very own fairy tale marionettes, and put on a full production that was enjoyed by their peers and staff on July 20, a unique and whimsical way to end the week, organizers said. More fun activities are planned in the weeks ahead. For more information on Kurn Hattin, visit www.kurnhattin.org.
