Celebrate N.H. Eat Local Month with Claremont Farmers’ Market

CLAREMONT – During the month of August, the Claremont Farmers’ Market will joins with more than 70 partners throughout the state tohighlight New Hampshire Eat Local Month, a month-long celebration of local food and New Hampshire farmers and producers. N.H. Eat Local Month also coincides with National Farmers’ Market Week (Aug. 5-11), honoring farmers’ markets all across America.

“Shopping at the Farmers’ Market, especially during August, provides a chance for residents and visitors to show their support for the local farmers and producers of the foods they eat,” said Debbie Tardiff, coordinator of the Claremont Farmers’ Market. “During August, our farmers / producers will offer specials such as buy one get one half off, or buy two get one free.”

Promotions of this year’s N.H. Eat Local Month are in collaboration with the New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, Markets and Food, Monadnock Buy Local and Seacoast Eat Local. For more information, visit www.nheatlocal.org and www.facebook.com/nheatlocal.

“New Hampshire residents and visitors alike are showing unprecedented interest in local food, and this month-long celebration offers a great opportunity to feature New Hampshire grown foods and farms,” said Gail McWilliam Jellie with the New Hampshire Department of Agriculture, Markets and Food, in a press release.

The Claremont Farmers’ Market is held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays through Sept. 8 at the Visitors’ Center Green, 14 North St. The children’s POP (Power of Produce) club continues through Aug. 18. Children can learn about healthy eating through fun activities such as scavenger hunts and taste testings. They can also get their own POP bucks to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables, and a tote bag to carry their purchases. EBT is accepted at the market, and some vendors take credit cards.
