ENFIELD — Shaker Bridge Theatre has announced its 2018-19 theatre season of five shows running Oct. 11 through May 19.
SBT Founder and Director Bill Coons read hundreds of scripts in his search of five plays for this season, which offers a wide array of styles and comedic genres by some of the theater world’s hottest contemporary playwrights. The theater draws audience members from the Claremont and surrounding areas, all according to a press release from the theater.
“I’ve selfishly selected plays I’m in love with and can’t wait to bring them to life,” said Coons. “When I select a play I’m going to produce it has to be something that’s so good and challenging that I’m willing to be obsessed with it for months.”
The 2018-19 Shaker Bridge Theatre season includes:
· Outside Mullingar by John Patrick Shanley, Oct. 11-28
· Over the Tavern by Tom Dudzick, Dec. 6-23
· Dry Powder by Sarah Burgess, Feb. 7-24
· The Taming by Laura Gunderson, March 28 – April 14
· Women in Jeopardy by Wendy MacLeod, May 2-19
“Outside Mullingar,” directed by Coons, is a Tony Award nominee for Best Play from the author of “Doubt” and “Moonstruck” and is a romantic comedy set in rural Ireland. This tender-hearted portrait reminds us that it’s never too late to take a chance on love.
In “Over the Tavern,” also directed by Coons, the Pazinski family has a lot going on in their cramped Buffalo apartment. This touching depiction of 1959 Americana provides a warm and hilarious look at family, growing up, and God.
Now in its 12th season, the Shaker Bridge Theatre in Enfield is dedicated to discovering and creating provocative contemporary theatre. Show times are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. For reservations, visit us atwww.shakerbridgetheatre.org.
