With students getting ready to return to school next week, the high temperatures on most days has taken a backward slide. Instead of topping out in the 90s, the latest afternoon readings are down to the high 70s and low 80s. I
On Thursday, Aug. 16, the humidity dropped into the 50s from the low 70s a day earlier, which was refreshing. And then it shot back up a day later. It appears that summer isn’t quite ready to make its exit just yet.
There has also been plenty of rain across the state and here in Sullivan and Merrimack counties during the first two weeks of August. Ion Claremont on Friday, Aug. 17, .64 inches of rain was recorded and on Saturday, Aug. 17 it jump to .95 for a total of 1.59 inches.
Motorists heading into Claremont from Newport around 7 a.m. Saturday ran into a brief downpour. There was a light drizzle until the top of Dump Hill on John Stark Highway. At that point the faucet was turned on and rain blasted down, slowing traffic. And then, at the bottom of Dump Hill, the faucet was turned off,the rain let up and returned to a light shower.
