NEW LONDON, N.H. – August 20, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer College women’s soccer team has been chosen to finish fifth in the 2018 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Preseason Poll.

Colby-Sawyer (12-3-1), led by first-year head coach Gene Smith, will begin its first season in the GNAC. The Chargers return their top four leading scorers and starting goalie. Hannah Fields (11g, 8a, 30p), Amanda Martin (7g, 5a, 19p), Molly MacLure (6g, 5a, 17p) and Maddie Chamard (3g, 5a, 11p) will look to lead the Chargers into a postseason appearance for the eighth year in a row. MacLure, Fields and goalie Sam Mitchell each earned all-conference recognition last season in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC).

Lasell was picked as the favorite with 164 points and eight first-place votes. Johnson & Wales was second with 161 points and earned the remaining five first-place votes. Saint Joseph’s (Maine) took third place (131), while Emmanuel (128) rounded out the four teams to place ahead of Colby-Sawyer’s 118 point total.

Colby-Sawyer will begin the season on Saturday (9/1) at home against Plattsburgh State. After a quick road trip to Keene on September 4, the Chargers return home to open conference action against Simmons. The 12-match GNAC slate will conclude at home on October 20 against Anna Maria. The Chargers will wrap up the regular season with a non-conference tilt against former NAC foe Castleton, which joined the Little East Conference this season.
