Habitat for Humanity acquires 10th house to rehab

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — The Greater Springfield Vermont Area Habitat for Humanity (GSVAHH) has acquired its 10th rehabilitation property to work on and offer for sale to an eligible partner family, and is seeking volunteers and applicants.

The home is a two-bedroom ranch with kitchen, living room, one bath, attached heated breeze way, and large two-car garage with a finished unheated room overhead. It includes an in-ground pool off the breezeway. The property is 1.6 acres off a paved town road at 422 Lacross Road, and is on the school bus route. The property has a drilled well and septic system, plus spring rights to fill the pool.

A hot air furnace is in the cellar, and there is a full-sized attic for storage and an enclosed unheated front porch.

GSVAHH is starting with the rehabilitation, and is looking for volunteer workers for demolition work, as well as insulation and sheetrock installation inside. Outside, the organization need volunteers for brush and tree removal, plus soil trucking and leveling to smooth out some of the deep wheel ruts in the field.

To volunteer to work or donate materials or funds for the project, call Walter Pluss at (802) 343-5833 or email [email protected]. If Walter is unavailable, contact Dave Yesman at (802) 885-5318 or [email protected]
