Juvenile cited on suspicion of assaulting officer, resisting arrest

BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. — An unnamed 17-year-old juvenile is facing charges in family court on charges that he allegedly assaulted a law enforcement officer and resisted arrest.

According to a press release from the Bellows Falls Police Department, officers with the BFPD made contact with a 17-year-old juvenile from North Springfield, due to the juvenile displaying “erratic behavior,” at 12:58 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29 on Westminster Street at the intersection of Barker Street in Bellows Falls.

Upon making contact with the juvenile, he was carrying a pack of cigarettes, and had identified himself as being 17 years old, all according to a press release from the BFPD.

While talking with the juvenile, an officer asked about the cigarettes. At this time, “the juvenile took one step back and got into a fighting stance, cocking his fist back as if he was going to strike the officer,” according to police.

Officers attempted to take control of the juvenile, and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, one of the officers was allegedly assaulted. The juvenile allegedly continued to resist being placed into handcuffs, all according to police.

After the incident, the juvenile was cited into Windham Family court to face the charges of alleged assault on a law enforcement officer, and alleged resisting arrest.
