GRAFTON, Vt. — Wander down a forested path and enjoy the sounds of birdsong and children’s laughter. Stroll along to examine the enchanting details of the small houses which have been built there for the fairies: the birch branches transformed into bridges, the twigs woven into tiny treehouse ladders, the acorn cap dinnerware set for a fairy party. All are invited to enter a world of imagination and nature as the Nature Museum will presents its 10th annual Fairy House Festival, an enchanting experience in the forests of Grafton, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29 and Sunday, Sept. 30.
The Fairy House Festival is an imaginative opportunity for people of all ages to interact directly with the environment, expressing their creativity while fostering a deeper relationship with nature.
Visitors of all ages are invited to walk the half-mile Fairy House Trail, sprinkled with fairy houses, schools, boats, airplanes, libraries, carousels, and more.
These structures are lovingly created each year by Fairy House Builders, volunteers from the community whose individuality and creativity are reflected in the diversity of their creations. After a shady stroll down the trail, festival guests can return to the Nature Museum via an easy hike over grassy and forested terrain to create their own fairy dwellings in the Museum’s gardens. Hands-on crafts, face painting, and bubbles will create a magical atmosphere and provide hours of engaging fun. Light refreshments will be available for purchase, and picnicking is encouraged.
The Fairy House Festival is The Nature Museum’s key annual fundraiser — all proceeds are used to fund year-round environmental education programming in local community. As a nonprofit organization, the museum provides information and creates experiences that engage and enlighten audiences and inspire stewardship of the natural world. The museum offers environmental education programs presented in regional public schools and libraries, natural science programs offered to children, adults and families, plus the museum’s natural history exhibits available throughout the year.
Advance tickets can be purchased online at The Nature Museum by visiting www.nature-museum.org. Tickets are also available at the gate. Children age 2 and under attend for free.
The Nature Museum is based at 186 Townshend Road in Grafton, Vermont.
