Congratulations to the Claremont School Board for banning cell phones in class (Aug. 17 opinion page).
When I taught for the Long Beach Unified School District from 1980-2004 at Woodrow Wilson High School, my school attempted to get cell phone use banned in class, but parents loudly complained that they need to be in touch with their children in case of an emergency.
What has happened to calling the school office and relating the necessity to the principal’s secretary? What did parents do prior to the advent of cell phones?
Kudos to Stevens!
