On Sept. 11 at 9 a.m., Vermont State Police were dispatched to a reported head on crash involving a school bus and a passenger vehicle, on US Route 5 near Cemetery Road in Westminster. There was a light rain falling and roads were wet.
Upon arrival it was observed that the school vehicle involved was not a school bus but rather a regular sized passenger van. It was also determined at the time of the crash there were no students in the van.
Investigation revealed that Jasmine Gray-Jones, 27, of Westminster was traveling south in a 2005 Saab 97 on Route 5 when she initiated a left turn into the Best Septic driveway. At the same time the 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan operated by Althea Garfield, 54, of Charlestown, New Hampshire was traveling north on Route 5. Gray-Jones saw Garfield’s van approaching and believed she had enough time to turn in front of it. However, there was not enough distance, and the two vehicles collided. Occupants of both vehicles reported minor injuries — Gray-Jones an abrasion on the neck and Garfield minor lacerations and abrasions on the arm — and Garfield and her passenger, Abbey Tenney-Morris, 49, of Charlestown, who had head and chest pain, were later transported to the Springfield Hospital.
Vermont State Police were assisted on scene by the Bellows Falls Police Department, Westminster Fire Department, Golden Cross Ambulance and Joe’s Towing of Claremont.
