NEWBURY — County Commissioners and other county officials will converge on Mount Sunapee Resort Sunday for the start of the Annual New Hampshire Association of Counties Trade Show.
Every year a different county sponsors the event and this year it was Sullivan County’s turn.
Conference trade show vendors and Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze sponsors who will be hosting specific activities throughout the conference will be welcomed by Sullivan county Manager Derek Ferland on Monday at the Common Man Restaurant in Claremont.
“We wish you the best as you network with our New Hampshire county elected officials, administration and professional staff,” he said in a letter to those participants on Friday.
During the gathering from Sept. 16-19, a full slate of activities are on tap each day.
A two-hour cruise with Captain Tim narrating facts and lore of Lake Sunapee is scheduled at 4 p.m. on Sunday with the possibility of a Steve Tyler-Aerosmith sighting.
Many other weekend activities are also available at Mount Sunapee Adventure Park.
Jeffrey Barrette, chairman of the Sullivan County Board of Commissioners will welcome the guests and participants Monday morning following breakfast. At the lunch buffet the keynote speaker will be New Hampshire Governor Christopher T. Sununu.
At Tuesday’s lunch, UNH President James W. “Jim “ Dean Jr. will be the keynote speaker.
Evening events at Tuesday’s reception include the annual Awards Banquet and music by the Davis Brothers Garage Band featuring Old-Time Rock & Roll from 8:30 to 11 p.m.
Many well-known personalities in a variety of fields will be leading workshops during the conference.
A Guest Bus Tour is scheduled for Monday with the first stop at the Newport Library Arts Center Gallery and Studio with a viewing with Kate Luppold, Executive Director, of wall art and featured juried artist Jon Gibson, pewter; John Lunn, silver and gold flute maker and Jeff Roberts, fine furniture woodwork.
The Newport Historical Society Presentation is scheduled at the Sarah Josepha Hale Monument followed by lunch at the Old Courthouse Restaurant. In the afternoon the guests will be shopping in the Claremont center area along with a tour of the city.
In the afternoon the group will view the Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge spanning the Connecticut River and then go on to Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site for a guided or self-guided tour.
Also on Monday there will be a taste of Claremont at Farro Deli, Ramunto’s Brick Oven Pizza, Revolution Cantina and Taverne on the Square. On Tuesday a guest tour lunch at Artisans Park in Windsor will be followed by a tour at Harpoon Brewery.
