Born in Lempster, Dec. 9, 1919, Len was the second child of John G. and Leola L. Powers. Len’s siblings John and Betsy predeceased him. He graduated from Towle High School and attended Babcock College. He served six years in Australia and the South Pacific during World War II. He reached the rank of captain. He was married in Australia to Mabel A. Aisbett and they had two children, Graham and Patty. After Mabel passed away Len met and married Gene Grow. Gene and Len had two daughters, Leslie and Heidi.
He owned and operated Lake Sunapee Realty and the accompanying insurance business for 45 years. Len was a resident of Sunapee for 40 years, where he was a member of the Lions Club, the Elks Club, and the Masons. Len was a Charter Member of the Sunapee Board of Realtors where he served over 25 years to the Sunapee community. After Len retired, he and Gene moved to Fort Myers, Florida, where they lived for the next ten years, and he volunteered his time to his community in Ft. Myers, Florida. In 2004 they moved to Eliot, Maine. Gene predeceased Len in 2006. He continued to live in Eliot and Kittery, Maine, and Newmarket, New Hampshire, until he passed away on Sept. 1, 2018.
His children will fondly remember him as a hardworking, honest man, who had integrity, lots of friends, loved the outdoors, had a keen sense of humor and instilled all his high values in his children. He loved to hunt, fish, and golf.
Len is survived by his son Graham Powers of Fraser, Colorado, his daughter Patty Kosowicz of Kittery, Maine, his daughter Leslie Powers of Grantham and his daughter Heidi Amsden of Eliot, Maine. He leaves five grandchildren, Heidi Trueblood of Edwards, Colorado, Zack Kosowicz of Hopkinton, Alison Powers of Pinecliff, Colorado, Carly Amsden of Eliot, Maine, and Skyler Amsden of Eliot, Maine. Len also leaves four great grandchildren, Gabrielle and Josephine Trueblood of Edwards, Colorado and Andess and Sawyer Kosowicz of Hopkinton.
