NEWPORT — Laura Anne Vance, 72, of Newport passed away on Sept. 15, 2018 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a short illness.
Born on April 4, 1946 to the late Owen and Ella (Sanborn) Porter, Laura lived in the Newport area most of her life. She spent many years working at LaCrosse Boot, Sylvania, and the Dorr Woolen Mill.
Laura enjoyed cooking, cleaning, and the smell of carnations. She loved all animals, especially hummingbirds and dolphins. She treasured her time with her children and granddaughter and was close with her siblings, especially her brother, Roger. Laura will be remembered as a sweet and kind lady.
She is predeceased by parents, her brothers, Owen Porter, Jr., Reggie Porter, and Stanley Porter, and her partner of 22 years, Eugene Swasey, who passed in 2008. She is survived by her daughters, Tami Evans and her husband Victor of Henniker, and Carla Vance of Newport; her son, Todd Vance and his fiancé Laren Hacker of Newport; brother, Roger Porter and his wife Jean of Newport; sister-in-law, Maureen Porter of Newport; granddaughter, Trisha Vance; her best friend, Colleen Walker, and her beloved cat, Zoe.
A family celebration of Laura’s life will be held in the future.
