MERIDEN — On Saturday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m., the Aidron Duckworth Art Museum in Meriden will host a performance of “Care Package,” a new work by Korean multimedia artist Kyoung Eun Kang. Working with simple materials such as stones collected from a river where she grew up or gifts sent from her mother through the mail, Kang creates complex happenings layered with insight into nostalgia, family longing, and the translations made in cross cultural exchanges. Kang’s performances are often subtle, engaging in interventions to focus attention on interactions that, although abstract in nature, are filled with a connection to our essential humanity.
Kyoung Eun Kang was born in South Korea and currently lives in New York. Her work ranges in media from traditional painting and drawing to live performance, video, sound, and installation. Kang’s work has been shown in solo exhibitions at: NURTUREart, the BRIC project room, Here Arts Center, NY, and PRIMETIME, all in Brooklyn, New York, and at the Contemporary Museum of Hong-ik University,Seoul, South Korea.
“I hope to capture the subtle beauty of human encounters and growth, embracing dynamic actions that resonate in the human experience, such as walking, breathing, eating and gathering.” – Kyoung Eun Kang
The museum will open at 7 p.m. for refreshments and for the public to view the current exhibitions – “Forest Collection” by Joseph Salerno and “Transparent Bodies” by Aidron Duckworth. This event is free and open to all ages.
