Seniors who are taking Senior Writing and Senior Honors English Seminar are working on drafts of the reflective anchor paper, which asks them to respond to the Common App essay prompt. Students who choose to do so will be able to use this essay on their college applications!
The freshmen English classes have begun their first anchor paper: Writing a reflective narrative essay about an object of significance. The honors level freshmen are about to begin To Kill a Mockingbird! Other ninth-grade classes have been reading various literary works and studying plot terminology.
We should have a new freshman English teacher very soon!
Our school newspaper, The Roar Report, will be starting up within the next two weeks.

Newport is holding a community talent show! This is not a contest. There are no winners or losers – simply a chance to show off your talent to the community. It’s a great showcase for kids or grownups that are looking to try a new number or act in front of an extremely supportive audience.
All ages are invited to participate – and we welcome talents of any kinds! Auditions took place on Sept. 17, dress rehearsal is on Sept. 20, and the performance will take place on Sept. 21.
Everyone is welcome to participate (auditions simply help us put together a running order and ensure that all acts are family friendly). If you’d like to participate, but cannot make either the auditions or the dress rehearsal, email the opera house at [email protected] or call 863-2412.
Tickets will be available in advance or at the door. Prices are $5 for adults and $2.50 for kids, students and seniors.
We will provide microphones and can accompany you through our sound system if you provide us digital files (or a cd) or the necessary music.
