LUDLOW, Vt. — In a recent episode of Spotlight, a program of area news recorded by Okemo Valley TV and moderated by Ralph Pace, Leslie Stuart, the owner of The Wine and Cheese Depot and The Stemwinder, along with Wendy Neal, discussed wine, its history, development, and uses. Stuart noted that wine, like beer, probably was first created as the result of an accident where early people allowed foods to stand too long only to discover that the resulting fluid tasted very satisfying. She described the processes of modern wine making, noting that both red and white grapes produce a colorless fluid; the addition of fluid from the grape’s outer skin is what makes red wine red. Leslie stressed that wine vintage, while important in its marketing, did not always mean that it was good or bad, indicating that personal taste was the ultimate criterion as to whether the wine was desirable or not.The program may be viewed on Okemo Valley TV channel 8 in Ludlow, Cavendish, and Plymouth and channel 20 in Mt Holly over cable television. Pictured above are Ralph and Leslie discussing wine, a topic they both apparent to quite interested in.
