BF field hockey rolls in Windsor

WINDSOR, Vt. – The home Yellow Jackets had potential to pull off one of the biggest upsets in recent memory when the Division 1 top-seeded Terriers visited on Wednesday. Although Windsor fell short 6-0, head coach Jody Wood thought her team learned from playing such a great opponent right in the thick of the 2018 season.

“It was a great game to prepare us for the post season,” said coach Wood. “Bellows Falls is always a great team to play against. They allow us to see our weaknesses and what we need to work on to prepare for the playoffs.”

Not even four minutes into the game, BF put their first goal on the board. Over the next 20 minutes, Abbe Cravinho put three more goals on the board to put BF up 4-0 at the half.

“I thought the girls started flat and played down from the 26:45-mark,” said Wood.

The Yellow Jackets competed with BF fairly well in the second half, only allowing two goals as the game’s momentum shifted closer to even.

“We came out at the half and played with more intensity,” said coach Wood.

In the second half, both of BF’s goals came from Madison Streeter, who also assisted on a goal in the first half. Despite the shutout victory, BF head coach Bethany Coursen thought her team could have played together better.

“We didn’t play our best game” said Coursen. “The girls seemed slow and didn’t play as a team. Windsor seemed off as well. Their goalie had some great saves. I think we moved the ball much better in the second half but we definitely have some things to work on tomorrow in practice.”

Bellows Falls had 11 corners to Windsor’s 5. The Yellow Jackets’ Madi Leduc had 9 saves in net and Glenna Ricard contributed 2. Hayley Fortin had a strong game defensively for Windsor.

Bellows Falls moves to 6-0 in Division one and Windsor drops to 6-2 in Division three.
