BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. and KEENE — Raymond F. McClary, 87, a resident of Keene passed away at his home on Friday, Sept. 28.
He was born in Bellows Falls, Vermont on Jan. 28, 1931, the son of Harold and Catherine (O’Connor) McClary. He attended St. Charles School and went on to graduate from Bellows Falls High School in 1950. He proudly served our nation as a member of the U.S. Army. On Aug. 31, 1957 he married the love of his life, Sylvia Deegan.
Ray was a member of the American Legion and also a member of the Saxtons River Art Club. Art was one of his passions and his artwork won several prizes at the Cheshire Fair and also as part of art exhibitions and shows in galleries through the art club. His creativity was shown through his watercolor paintings, which he spent hours working on. His favorite subjects for painting were landscapes and still lifes of flowers and fruit. Ray’s creativity spread not only to his artwork but also to the many creations that he made from wood: various shelves and tables. He also had quite a collection of model trains that he enjoyed. Ray also enjoyed working with youth in his community, whether as a part of the Boy Scouts or working with the schools to teach children about boats and how they work.
He is survived by his wife Sylvia McClary of Keene, his sister-in-law Louise Smith and her husband David of St. Louis, Missouri, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. He is predeceased by his sisters Carolyn Stoddard and Lorraine Alexander.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, 31 Cherry Street, Bellows Falls, Vermont. Burial will follow in the St. Charles Cemetery on Cemetery Road in Westminster, Vermont. Family and friends are invited to call on the family on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court St. Keene.
