Sunapee 3, Fall Mountain 2
The Sunapee Volleyball Teams traveled to Langdon to challenge the Wildcats of Fall Mountain High School on Wednesday night. The Sunapee JV team won in 2 sets, 26-24 and 25-12. They won the third set as well, 15-13. Sunapee’s varsity (2-7) challenged the Wildcat Varsity (8-3). The Lakers jumped to a small lead early in the first set with the Wildcats catching up and tying the set at 10 apiece. The teams traded the lead a few times and after closing to tie at 22-22, FM won set 1 25-23. The second set was close early and the Wildcats opened up a 21-14 lead. The Lakers clawed their way back to 17-21 and then 19-23, and then 19-24. From there, it was all Lakers who pushed on to win 26-24 led by Tess Palin’s tough serving. The Lakers took an early lead in set three and held and won 25-20. Set four was back and forth early but then the Wildcats ran up a lead on Sunapee. This time it was the Lakers who surged back but it was too little too late. The Wildcats won 18-25.The Lakers jumped out to a big lead early in set five. The Wildcats mounted a comeback which the Lakers fought off to win the set 15-11.The Lakers advance to 3-7 and the Wildcats drop to 8-4.”The girls left it all on the court tonight,” said FM head coach Michelle Swift. “There were just a few times were we got a little too careful and didn’t finish plays. I’m very pleased with the fight and the courage I saw out there. In particular, Rachel Watson was an absolute warrior. She gave everything in pursuit of the ball through the entire match.” Watson finished with 6 service points, 3 kills, 4 assists and 5 digs. Makayla Barre also had a big game with 15 points, 1 ace, 13 kills, and 6 digs. Erin Donovan also had 15 points, 2 aces, 5 kills and 4 digs. FM plays next against Belmont at home on Friday. Hitting/kills- Mackenzie Wrightington 2, Molly Reed 4, Tess Palin 6, Grace Clay 4, and Carissa Peirce 10. The Lakers also play Belmont next, on the road Tuesday.
Mascoma 3, Stevens 0
Stevens lost in three sets at Mascoma Wednesday night, 25-18, 25-5, and 25-12. “Four games in five days took a toll on them,” said Stevens head coach Kathryn Plouffe of her team. “They kept fighting back but it just wasn’t enough.” The Mascoma coaches were amazed by the progress that Stevens volleyball has made this year, and want to help in the effort to set up a summer league for the area so that players can improve and the sport can move forward. After a minor injury to a Stevens player that sent the player to the ER, “… the entire Mascoma staff was amazing in making sure we were all set,” said coach Plouffe. The Cardinals now get a week break, and will next travel to Belmont on Wednesday, October 10.
GIRLS SOCCER
Stevens 6, Fall Mountain 0
Stevens girls soccer traveled to Fall Mountain and came away with a 6-0 victory on Wednesday night. Stevens scored their first goal within the 34th minute when Audrey Puksta found the back of the net off an assist from Brooke Bonneau. The second goal of the contest would be put in by Bonneau off an assist from Sydney Miller in the 11th minute. Stevens would be able to put one more in the back of the net when Jenna Pond found Tanner Brown and went into halftime up 3-0. Stevens came out strong in the second half, finding the back of the net 3 more times. Audrey Puksta added two more goals and an assist and Brooke Bonneau added another. Two assists came from Elle Grenier. Kate Chambers and Fionah Carbee split time in goal and maintained the shut out for the Cardinals. Stevens moves to 10-2 in D-III and will play Hopkinton at home Thursday at 6 p.m.
Sunapee 5, Pittsfield 0
Sunapee led from start to grab a 5-0 victory on a very sloppy field in Pittsfield, NH on Wednesday. Sunapee just played Pittsfield this past weekend and went back to work, putting a few new faces on the scoresheet. First half goals were scored by Skylar Hathorn (assist to Hannah Cooney), Star Lucas (assist Marybeth Groton), Abby Pollari (assist Marybeth Groton), and Marybeth scored one of her own assisted by Robin Salvitti. Sunapee managed one goal in the second half off the foot of Louise Groton (unassisted). Sunapee Keepers (Miah Hamm and Abigail Rowell) combined for four saves on the night for the shutout. “In all, we did as well as we could,” said Sunapee head coach Myles Cooney. “The field was tough for both teams. We need to start preparing for the post-season and Newmarket will provide that intense atmosphere we are looking for on Friday.” Sunapee is 11-0 and travels to Newmarket Friday, who is 8-1, with their only loss coming to Sunapee.
Kearsarge 7, Sanborn 1
Kearsarge Cougars’ stats: Taryn Hubely had 2 goals, Elizabeth Greason had 1 goal and 2 assists, Lili Baer had 1 goal, Maya Stadler had 1 goal, Emily Folcik had 1 goal, Kallee Selby had 1 goal, Sarah Clark had 1 assist. For Sanborn: Amanda McVey scored off a penalty kick. “The girls were extremely encouraging of each other,” said Kearsarge head coach Emilay Wagaman. “It has been fun to watch these girls become a tight-knit group over the season.” Kearsarge improves to 6-4-1 in NH D-II.

Results of Tuesday’s XC meet in Windsor
WINDSOR, Vt. – On Tuesday, Windsor cross country hosted Bellows Falls, Springfield, and The Sharon Academy for a meet. The athletes were able to get some action in despite some not so ideal course conditions after a rain-filled start to this week. But, nonetheless, Windsor was able to break in their course through the damp and the cold. Results from Tuesday’s meet:
